Wim Wenders
I’m so excited to see Mr. Wenders tonight at the screening of Pina. And even better than that, I just got confirmation today that out of the kindness of his heart he will be a part of issue 04 of Letter to Jane. Good day all around.

Thieves Like Us
In a way I think all of Robert Altman’s films are underrated, but there are a select few like this one, that get really ignored, (it’s also on Netflix hint, hint). It’s a film that doesn’t really get made anymore, it’s a film about average people. They’re not very spectacular or bright and Altman is fine with that. It’s not a grand film like a lot of his other films, it’s stripped down and quiet. I really get the sense that Altman really enjoyed making this film, and maybe that’s why he got such great performances out of his actors.

Re: what I wrote in the last post.

Black Narcissus
Would probably be my vote for best color film of all time, just gorgeous. I was recently watching this the other day again and it dawned on me how many times I’ve watched this film. It’s something I always have a copy on my iPad so I can go to and look at a scene. As I get more into actual filmmaking this movie is kind of like a guidebook. It’s really an amazing display of film language and how to set up a shot.

Jean-Luc Godard and Anne Wiazemsky

Claire’s Knee

Things I love about Woody Allen’s Manhattan
“Talent is luck. The important thing in life is courage.” and ”Gossip is the new pornography.” Both phrases that are at the beginning of the film I think are some of the most honest statements he’s made in his films.
Mr. Mike cameo.
Diane Keaton’s dog is named Waffles.
And I love that now it’s on Blu-Ray there’s finally a decent transfer of this film.
